Examples of work that can be executed with no shoot include user-generated content (Children’s, Founders, Commerce Bank and partially Gander), archival footage (Subaru, partially Children’s, Fiskars), found footage (Vera Bradley, Sprout), stock footage (Nectar, Brizo), and stills (MN Zoo, Brizo). Examples of work that were or could have been created with minimal safe-set production scenarios include AfroContigbo, TCF, BCBS, ARC, and Still Pacific.
Afrocontigbo was created from concept to finish in 12 days this April with a quarantine partner DP, Zoom interviews and remote edit. Also in April- Bissell Pet Foundation's "Share Pawsitivity" campaign spoke to the brand's unique relevance in the context of recent events (empty shelters!) with archival and UG footage, remote edit and finishing in my box. I've been doing color and finish for most non-broadcast pieces for years, but it's also easy to send a drive or upload OMFs to your preferred finishing house.
For Gander Mountain we mapped out the entire edit with Stalkr footage before the shoot, then kept some of it in the final. Bissell Pet Foundation “Days with You” had a shoot but took a pivot midway through the edit to tell the story through the real life family’s Instagram photos. From the wayback machine- the Citi spot was talking hand footage shot by Errol Morris, believe it or not, that wasn't used the first time around but was repurposed later for this fun campaign. All examples of thinking outside the box that could come in handy these days.
There’s nothing I like more than collaborating on storytelling strategies and there is no technique I don’t embrace. Please feel free to bring me in early to consult on projects- I've often been on set in the past and would happily supervise remote productions for smoother post. Thank you and stay well!
