The chicks are happily in their coop. It's reinforced to keep out predators in our woodsy backyard, and it's working because we've heard a screaming fox in the night cursing Kirk's good handiwork. The first few nights we ushered them up to the nesting box and closed the door for the night, opening it in the morning, but now they come and go as they please. See the video!

Natural elements for added interest and pine shavings. Bye bye, puppy pads! The warming lamp is off, too. Just a week or two until they're in their coop outside. Elvo's Barred Rock speckles are really started to show, and Tik-Tok's comb is growing quickly. It's surprisingly wobbly rather than stiff.

They sure are growing! Check out the timelapse. They go in the cage while their box is being cleaned. At center is Gopher with her sweet goofy eye.

Van Halen is a Black Australorp rocker and she likes to party. She's always up to something- likes to jump and is highly photogenic. If Van Halen's around, a good time will be had by all!

Gopher likes to go under anything she can go under. Best friend to Tik-Tok, she is the guardian of the clock. Tik-Tok rules the clock and Gopher guards it. She's always a little dirty and is known for her goofy eye and blackish stripe along the shoulder. Gopher's awesome.

This is Elvo. A Barred Rock, she's really brave and gets along with all the other chicks. She's named Elvo because she likes to stretch a lot and get elevated on the feeder.

Participating in an Outschool class this morning on raising chicks with a small farmer in Massachusetts and young students from around the country! Getting to show off our little friends and learning about next steps.

Buff Orpingtons are known as the Golden Retrievers of the chicken world, and she's like a supermodel within her breed. A true beauty with a disposition to match. She hugs the thermometer clock most of the day, hence the name. When she gets up for food and water, the others battle for her spot. Her bestie is our other Buff O.- Gopher. So named because she's always trying to burrow under things.
